WHY UV-RESISTANT CLOTHING FOR BABY AND CHILD? 

UV-resistant clothing is a good idea when you want your child to enjoy the day outside. It is a recommended addition to sunscreen lubrication. Skinshield UV clothing for children is made of synthetic material, which contains UV filters. The specially woven polyester blocks more sun than fabrics made out of different materials such as cotton. 

TO WHAT EXTENT DO ORDINARY CLOTHES PROTECT? 

Plain clothing certainly protect from the sun, but by far not as well as UV-resistant clothing does. The degree of protection depends on the type of material, the weaving technique, density, color and moisture of the fabric. A plain, white, cotton T-shirt only provides about SPF 10-15 protection and if the shirt gets wet, this protection is even less. 

KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU LET YOUR CHILD WEAR REGULAR CLOTHING IN THE SUN: 

• Synthetic fabrics protect better than fabrics such as cotton, wool and silk
• Wet clothes let more UV radiation through than dry clothes 
• Dark clothing offers more protection than lighter clothing
• Tight clothing offers less protection than loose clothing, due to stretching of the fabric 
• If you allow your child to wear plain clothing for protection, apply sunscreen extra well

BUYING UV CLOTHING: WHAT SHOULD I PAY ATTENTION TO? 

When buying UV clothing (as with regular clothing), pay attention to the type of material and the color. In addition it is useful to check the label. The label will state whether the clothing has been tested for UV protection. This is referred to as Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF).

Even when wearing UV-resistant clothing, do not forget your sunscreen when going in the sun. Protect the skin!
